How You Die
Music: Finn Arild
Lyrics: Finn Arild and Elin H. Aasheim
He came home
late from work,
called out “I’m home” - as usual.
No answer, but then he heard
running water above.
Up a floor,
wanting to surprise you.
In the door, your eyes wide open.
You lay broken
on the floor,
your skin toned white to blue.
Blood on the tiles - you were not
breathing anymore.
Belief didn’t come at first.
How you die -
tragedy is no less just for one.
If a thousand people
lost the one they loved;
the hurt is nothing less for only one.
Voice coming
through his fog,
taking statement, it was hard
to remember times and all -
all they wanted to know.
Up a floor,
wanting to surprise you.
In the door, your eyes wide open.
You’re carried
out - sheet over face.
His loss takes hold of him.
No earthquake or act of war,
just a soap on the bathroom floor.
He couldn’t believe it.
